Iran agrees to ceasefire
President Trump said Tuesday that he has agreed to a double-sided cease-fire agreement between the United States and Iran just two hours before his deadline. “I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” the President wrote on Truth Social. The cease-fire agreement came after a request from Pakistan and the agreement was to be honored if the Islamic Republic of Iran agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz and allow oil to flow once more. Iran agreed and said it would be halting it’s defensive operations against the US Military.
Haywood Co. appoints interim tax collector after sudden resignation
Interim Tax Collector appointed for haywood county, nC
The Haywood County Board of Commissioners has appointed an interim tax collector. Greg West was appointed to serve as the interim until the term expires. His appointment comes after the unexpected resignation of the now former tax collector Sebastian Cothran. In December 2025, Cothran stated he was not running for reelection. He said he was “truly grateful” for his time as tax collector. At the time of his election, Cothran was twenty-one years old, making him the youngest person to fill the role. In March, West won the GOP primary, defeating two other candidates with more than 51% of the vote according to data from the North Carolina State Board of Elections. He won the office back in 2018 but lost to Cothran in 2022. West faces no Democratic opposition in the November 2026 General Election. If he’s certified as the winner, then he would be sworn in again to begin his full term as the Haywood County tax collector.
